Coburn introduced Senator McCain at the CPAC conference earlier this year, some believe Coburn's support was a key reason McCain got the nomination. More information as it becomes available.

I'm still intrigued by Simon's post about David Brooks' piece on McCain's new negative campaigning being a response to Obama's media coverage. My comment, I think captures my view on this quite well, but this led me back to something I've been pondering for a while, that is the unifying force behind the conservative support for McCain. McCain has, and always will have dedicated support from moderate Republicans, independents, and even a good number of moderate Democrats. I respect McCain a great deal, and I've said so before. OK, first of all, yes - I did make up the word "smarmilarity." I think it's an appropriate mixture of "smarminess" and "hilarity" that's just right for John McCain. He's so convinced of his own superiority over the dumb peons in the GOP, that he's flip-flopping worse than a freshly caught trout, and chuckling as the "faithful and loyal" Republicans just line up to drink his Kool Aid. The more I listen to this guy, the more he pisses me off. The more he opens his ignorant yap about finances, taxes and the economy, the more I want to beat him over the head with a basic microeconomics book.
